SAAF is presenting Danish Film Fest : LA every year. Since 2006 it has been an annual festival showcasing Danish Cinema.

We have starting to co-present series throughout the year in various venues and with existing film festivals.

We will co-present a series of films by legendary Danish director Carl Th. Dreyer in April 2009 with CIENFAMILY @ teh historic Silent Movie Theatre in W. Holllywood.

our mission is to promote all cultural aspects including visual arts, music, and performing arts  - historical as well as contemporary.

Among the specific activities, SAAF pursue are:

• to present + co-host Scandinavian films to the L.A. area - specifically through the platform DANISH FILM FEST, of which Lene Pels Jorgensen is Director + Creator

• to show Scandinavian art: painting, sculpture, photography, crafts, and graphic  art in galleries, cultural centers, and more

• to bring Scandinavian performing arts to the LA area

• to bring Scandinavian music to the LA area through radio or live  performances  within an existing festival or concert series

• to bring Scandinavian fashion, wearable art and textile design to California

• to hold symposia on architecture or other subjects of interest

• to bring lecturers of the arts to universities

• to encourage research in Scandinavian arts collections

• to bring West Coast culture to Scandinavia through the above mentioned disciplines

The organization was founded 1990 by Lena Hansen. SAAF was responsible for bringing the exhibition The Golden Age of Danish Painting to the LA County Museum of Art and to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in N.Y., and for events centered around screenings of Danish films and bringing directors such as Bille August and Liv Ullmann to Los Angeles. SAAF also arranged a concert with Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Current administration:

Lene Pels Jørgensen became the CEO of SAAF in 2004 and curated the Exhibition series STUDIO DENMARK (visit www.studio-denmark.com for more info), showcasing 7 Danish artist in the areas of art, crafts, photography, installation, furniture design, and jewelry design which showed in Southern California between 2003-2005. Lene has worked on organizing a Dogme film festival since 2004, which became the beginning of the Annual DK FILM FEST : LA opening in mid-2006. The Danish jewelry exhibition DANISH JEWELRY : 3-2-1, an extension of Studio Denmark under SAAF was organized by Lene and opened during the film fest in June 2006. For the last 5 years years her main focus has been on the execution of Danish Film Fest .

Lene and SAAF was also involved in other events such as a Nordic Design exhibition.

Annika H. Olsen is a Faeroese designer who studied fashion design and manufacturing in Denmark. She opened 3 retail stores and a wholesale showroom / design studio in Copenhagen before coming to LA in 2006. Besides designing, manufacturing and marketing her lines of upscale clothing for men and women, she has designed costumes for the entertainment and hospitality industries.

In the spring 2009, she will be launching 3 lines from her studio in Silver Lake. Annika Olsen (A.O.C.O)” will mainly be a leather accessories line. BOBCATstyle” is a t-shirt line for men and women and last ECLIPSE-COUTURE which is sun repellant clothing with UPF filter.

She constantly strives to transcend the boundary between fashion and wearable art and has been active both as a participant and curator of various fashion design exhibits. She is also an advocate of raising America's awareness of Scandinavian fashion and design. This especially through her board membership in Scandinavian American Arts Foundation. (SAAF)

Annika was instrumental in putting on the show DANISH JEWELRY : 3-2-1 at Sculpture To Wear, a wearable art gallery and showroom in Santa Monica during the DK FILM FEST : LA in 2006 and her designs were represented there.

She is an advocate of raising America's awareness of Scandinavian fashion and design.
